Faakhir Mehmood

Introduction:

Awaz group was a household name in the 90’s. Their songs Aye Jawan, Jadoo ka Chiragh, and others were amongst the most played songs on radio, TV, and all around. The band split up in 2000 allowing singers to launch their solo albums. Faakhir Mehmood turned out to be the hidden jewel of Awaz. The keyboardist of the band amazed audiences with his spectacular songs. His enchanting voice and captivating personality made him a national star overnight.

Personal Life:

Born on 20th April 1973, Faakhir Mehmood belongs to Islamabad. However, he graduated from UET, Lahore. A qualified electrical engineer, Faakhir owns a music studio in Karachi. His passion for music and gadgets has created magic in Pakistani pop music. Faakhir Mehmood recalls he was as young as eight years old when he bought his first harmonica. That is when he discovered his love for music. Growing up, he aced in playing the keyboard and guitar. When he was studying at university, he met Haroon, and together they formed the Awaz group, along with Assad.

Faakhir Mehmood is happily married to Mehreen Faakhir who is a fashion designer.

Career:

While a bandmate of Awaz, Faakhir stayed away from the limelight as the keyboardist. He accredits the group for his growth as a musician. He sang a few songs for Awaz such as the super hit song, Janey Kon Thi Haseena, and Dhund. He performed the backup vocals for all the songs.

Faakhir released his first single in August 2000, on the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day. The song became a national anthem across the country. Dil Na Lagey broke all the records and was played at every independence celebration in schools, colleges, or anywhere else. Then Faakhir gave the smashing hit, Pantene song, Dilruba. Shot in Spain, it was the most expensive video of its time. It has a fresh and melodious Spanish cadence. Faakhir gave one after the other hit songs. His OST for the drama serial Kabhi Kabhi Pyar Mein also became a super hit. Other OSTs sung by Faakhir include Ek Waari, Dolly Darling, Tum Meri Ho, and Salam Zindagi. Faakhir conquered the Pakistani pop industry like no other.

Showing his versatility, Faakhir has also recited a hamd, Allah Hu. Faakhir has also sung several songs for Coke Studio. He collaborated with artists like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Zeb Bangash, and Natasha Baig in Coke Studio 9. He made some successful attempts at satirical songs like Atom Bomb and O Sheeday. However, his latest album, Jee Chahey failed to impress the fans as much as the initial albums did.

Faakhir also tried his luck across the border and collaborated with big names like Sunidhi Chauhan. He also won two awards at an Indian award ceremony, Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards.
